The Columbia "Trick Bike" Project
Many bicycle collectors are familliar with the "Swing Bike" made in the mid-70's.
This was a dual steering bike made for stunts and tricks and was based on Schwinn Stingray parts. What most people don't
know is Columbia attempted to make their own dual steer trick bike based on a BMX style bike in or about 1990.
As far as I can tell, there was two prototypes made. One is in the Columbia Factory Museum collection,
never having left the factory. Below is a picture of that one.
There was at least one other, possibly an earlier attempt at this concept. This was found this past
year by a friend of mine in New Hampshire. The paint jobs are nearly identical but there is major differences in the design.
This one is a simpler design made like a uni-cycle with the crank/pedals on the rear axle. It has no chain and no breaks.
